The Three Kings Preparation is a unique biodynamic preparation developed by Hugo Erbe, a German biodynamic farmer. This preparation is crafted using three precious substances: gold, frankincense, and myrrh, which are symbolic gifts offered by the Three Kings to the baby Jesus. Erbe formulated this preparation to restore the balance of the elements of Earth, Water, Air/Light, and Fire, which he believed were disrupted by the nuclear bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The Three Kings Preparation serves as an offering to the elemental world and a blessing for the earth, aiming to ward off harmful influences from disturbed elementals yet also offering harmony and as a way to placate some elementals.

The process involves mixing gold, frankincense resin, and myrrh resin on New Year's Eve for 1 hour, resulting in a powder that is stored until Three Kings Day (January 6th). Then on Three Kings day the powder is mixed with rain water in a bucket by hand for one hour. The stirring of the water by hand as per Rudolf Steiners instruction is both stirred to the heart and then from the heart, this creates a vortex, which is believed to make the solution into structured water. When the one hour of stirring is complete the Custodian walks around the perimeter of the land with the bucket, every 2 to 3 steps a small amount of water is sprayed into the air from inside the land, creating a fine cloud or aura thus offering the Gold Frankincense and Myrrh to the elementals,. The gold in the preparation is believed to bring wisdom and intelligence, frankincense is associated with spiritual intuition and mental functioning, and myrrh symbolizes the victory of life over death. Together, these substances are thought to enhance the health and vitality of the plants and the surrounding environment, creating harmony whilst also making an offering to the Elementals.

The Three Kings Preparation is not only a practical agricultural tool but also a spiritual practice that connects farmers to the natural world and cosmic forces. By applying this preparation, biodynamic farmers and gardeners aim to create a harmonious and balanced ecosystem that supports the growth of healthy, vibrant plants. The ritualistic nature of the preparation process, performed during this sacred time of the year, adds a sense of reverence and mindfulness to the practice, making it a truly holistic approach to farming and gardening. This offering to the elementals is a way for farmers and gardeners to work in harmony with the spiritual aspects of the land, acknowledging and respecting the unseen forces that influence the natural world.
